On the Paths of the Soul. Gustav Vigeland sculpture and Poland around 1900
- exhibition.
For the first time was presented as a large number of works by Polish artists, which were created in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, in the Vigeland Museum in Oslo, next to work of then unknown and young Gustav Vigeland.
The exhibition presented work of Norwegian sculptor in a completely different context and shows the unknown in earlier period Vigeland relations with Polish artists during the early twentieth century. He was most associated with the Polish writer Stanislaw Przybyszewski, who was married to Dagny Juel - sculptors countrywoman. More or less in the 90s of nineteenth century Przybyszewski was associated with Berlin's famous artistic company that revolved around Zum Schwarzen Ferkel. In this cafe writer met Edvard Munch and playwriter form Sweden - August Strindberg. There, became friends with Gustav Vigeland too, whose critic he become and began to publish reviews of his works in the European press and contributed to presentation of the sculptor's works in Poland.
Exhibition in the Vigeland Museum presents 28 sculptures by Polish artists (among others. K. Dunikowski and B. Biegas) together with the work of Vigeland. Sculptures of 11 Polish artists have been specially hired for this occasion from a number of Polish cultural institutions. Museum in Oslo is working on an exhibition with the National Museum in Cracov and exhibition is sponsored by funds from the Cultural Exchange Fund. Within the museum you can buy a special promotional folder associated with this project. Opening of exhibition at which guests from Poland and Polish Ambassador in Oslo - Wojciech L. Kolanczyk, were present, was on 3rd June of year 2010.
Exhibition runs until August 22nd of 2010 and every Sunday are organized tours in company of art historians.
